So today I finally put the consents in the mail to donate our remaining three embryos to scientific research. I was in tears over it last night when I was sealing the envelope. We’ve had them in cryo preservation for 2 years now because I didn’t want to give them up. In April (about 2 weeks after the twins turned 1) I had a D&C and ablation which has rendered me unable to have any more children. I was in denial about that for several months too. I think in June the clinic sent a letter saying we had to either move the embryos to a long-term storage facility or choose one of the other options available. We could have donated them to another couple but I just couldn’t stand the idea of someone else having my babies. The other option was to drive to Green Bay and they would give them to me in a little paper straw…. sick, right?? So I had to accept that I couldn’t carry them and that left only one option to be had. So my tiny 5-day old would-be babies are on their way to La Jolla, CA to the The Stem Cell Resource. I’m sad about it but also kind of glad that the decision is done. I hope they will help to save a life (or many lives). It’s funny that when we first started the whole in-vitro process we were so sure that we would donate the remaining eggs, sperm, embryos to science. We checked that option on the intial paperwork without a moments hesitation. But after see what those microscopic little guys could become (running around my living room) it was far harder to just let them go. Don’t get me wrong – I’m still pro-choice, I think a woman should have 100% control over her own body. But I think it’s safe to say that I would personally not exercise certain options. This decision was very hard for me and I felt choceless… but I think in the end it was the best possible choice for me.

(Thank gawd it’s Thursday Night) Which means tomorrow is Friday. This week seems to have taken on an unnatural and tiring life of it’s own and I for one am looking forward to the weekend.

I think the house painting will be done tomorrow too — so that will be nice. The painters are nice and all but I don’t like having people lurking around the house all day. I was a little worried about my color choices at first but now that it’s more of a finished product I think I am happy with it. I’m guessing that all of my neighbors with their drab light blue, tan, or brown perfect vinyl siding are probably cringing at the very sunny yellow paint job. Oh well – too bad for them!

So the roof is done and the paint will be done. They just need to finish the gutters, the broken window and the deck steps. Everything should be in order for my Labor Day picnic. Woohoo!

I got my newish 2010 Kia Sedona on Monday night. A steal of a deal. Still working on the the paperwork with the credit union. I have to say I love my credit union – they let me get the car and they pay the dealer and I haven’t even signed loan papers yet! They are awesome!

I did decide to turn the twinnies car seats around. There were 3 requirements:

Over 22 pounds – CHECK

Over 1 year old – CHECK

Over 34 inches – FAIL — but all my kids are short, I’m short… I find this rule insulting!

Ellie and Marcus LOVE it! They can see Mom & Dad in the front of the car, they can see out the windows and they have way more leg room! I actually feel like the seats are locked in better than they were when they were rear-facing. So, I think it’s all good!

Progressive is not awesome. They are being dicks about paying my GAP policy. So… guess what? (Chicken butt!) They are cancelled! Switched my auto insurance to the same company doing my house insurance (Allstate). Not really any cheaper but it’s the principal of the thing. Too bad cause I really like Flo.

2 minutes to the new episode of Futurama – so that’s all for now folks!

Current Mood: *Wink* & Aaarrggghhh!!!!! & Busy & Hey there!

Verse 4 – No camels

Verse 5 – No coneys (a translation of the Hebrew Bible word shaphan, in modern English “rock hyrax”)

Verse 6 – No hares

Verse 7 – No swine

Verse 8 - ”Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you.”

Verse 10 – “all that have not fins and scales… they shall be an abomination unto you” – so basically No shellfish (shrimp, crab, lobster, etc)

Verse 13 – No eagles, ossifrage (a kind of vulture) or ospray

Verse 14 – No vultures or kites (raptors)

Verse 15 – No ravens

Verse 16 – No owls, nighthawks, cuckoos, or hawks

Verse 17 – No little owls, or great owls or cormorants

Verse 18 – No swans, pelicans, or gier-eagles

Verse 19 – No storks, herons, lapwings, or bats

Verse 20 – “All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you.”

Verse 29 – No weasels, mice or tortoises (I’m guessing turtles would be a no-no as well)

Verse 30 – No ferrets, chameleons, lizards, snails or moles

Verse 41 – “And every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earthshall be an abomination; it shall not be eaten.”

Verse 42 – “Whatsoever goeth upon the belly. and whatsoever goeth upon all four, or whatsoever hath more feet among all creeping things that creep upon the earth, them ye shall not eat, for they are an abomination.” – So basically no snakes, centipedes, millipedes – pretty much no bugs (except locusts which are deemed okay in verse 22).

It goes into detail in verses 30-40ish about how these “unclean” animals are not only to be avoided as food but that if they come in contact with or if their carcasses come in contact with anything then those things are basically contaminated and we are forbidden from them as well.

So you’re probably wondering… why do I care? Well doesn’t this seem just a little bit over the top? I know that I’m not going to give up bacon or shrimp to name a few favorites. I mean, truthfully, I probably wouldn’t have eaten many of these animals anyway but I fail to see the reasoning for them being banned. Further…. I point this out because of the hypocrisy. This is the same book of the Bible that homophobic right-wingers like to quote from when they try to defend their anti-gay propaganda. (See Lev 18:22 or 20:13)

So, here is my question for the masses… why should we vehemently follow the “anti-gay” verses but not the ones about naughty tasty animals? Or how about the versus dictating that “they shall not make baldness upon their head” (Lev 21:05) boy that would put a dent in some fundamentalist hair-dos (or lack therof). How about Lev 19:28 which says “Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you” – No tattoos!

I could go on – the entire book of Leviticus is a plethora of hypocrisy and unreasonable rules. So why oh why??? Why would anyone trying to prove a point use this as ammunition? I’m bewildered, befuddled… mystified! (Guess I’m not a)dumb b)gullible c)fundamentalist enough to get it.)

Help celebrate a year of Domestic Partnership Protections in Wisconsin!

Babies are officially 1 year, 3 months and 16 days old! They went for their 15-month chek-up today and passed with flying colors! I think Ellie remembered her 1 year visit and the 5 shots because she was none to happy when the doctor wanted to look at her. They both got only 2 shots today thankfully. They were both within the normal ranges for other kids their age.

Since Marcus didn’t weigh over 25 pounds we will not be turning the car seats around. Maybe at their 18-month checkup.

The kids both got vitamin drops with flouride because we have well water, we’ll be starting that tomorrow.

TODAY we started using cups instead of bottles and it’s actually going better than I’d expected. I’d been giving them cups randomly over the last few months but today I got rid of the bottles and decided it was time to switch over. (Next summer is potty training – woohoo!)

Well after the giant, killer, mutant hail last week that took out the power for 2 hours… I have insurance claims for both my car and my house.

The car actually got the worse beating. Taking that in a few minutes to have the insurance guy give me the rundown. The windshield needs to be replaced. The Auto-Glass guy was out last week and told me it couldn’t be patched. The passenger side got pummelled more so than the driver’s side. It’s amazing what a little ice can do!

The assessor for the house insurance is going to be out on Wednesday. I had a roofing pro take a look the day after it happened and he thinks the roof needs to be replaced to include all the soffits and some of the siding as well. Oi vey! Not sure how that one is going to play out. I could see the damage he was talking about when he explicitly pointed it out but I would not have found that myself. The damage to my car was way more obvious (at least to me). Guess that’s something I’ll have to learn being a new home owner.

In other news… trying to work with the local school district to make sure Austin doesn’t get lost in the shuffle. I don’t want him repeating basic math when he took Pre-Algebra last year. Spoke with the middle-school principal today and I think it is worked out. Guess I’ll know for sure when I get a copy of his schedule in a couple weeks.

Also… helping my cousin, Sarah, with her 1st Annual 5K Walk\Run to Help End Domestic Abuse. (I’m helping with the website.) For more info please check it out! HEDA

The twinnies get their 15-month check-up on Friday after which I will likely (finally) turn their car seats around. Probably seems insignificant to some of my readers but for us it’s a bit of a milestone.

Next week I will be in a training class working towards my CCAA (Citrix Certified Advanced Asministrator) – I take the test the following Tuesday. So – if I don’t answer your call or e-mail next week it’s because I’m in training and trying to pay attention and actually learn something! (-:

Well… that’s all for now. Have a good rest of the week!

I’ve been waiting to announce this because Marcus was still a little wobbly. And the first couple weeks of trial and error definitely earned him the name “Lumpy”! He still hasn’t caught up with his sister who can actually run faster than me, I think! But… after watching him today he is finally walking more than he is crawling and walking unaided instead of using the walls & furniture. He’s still got a little high-step going on but he definitely mobile now!

Ellie has been walking for at least 4 months and Marcus only started really walking on his own in June. So, this is a big milestone for him. He’s also part mountain goat (if I haven’t mentioned that before) – he climbs on EVERYTHING! He seemingly has no fear. So, I’m guessing the playpen will be useless by the end of summer.

Ellie isn’t much of a climber but she loves to run, especially if I let her go outside — she’ll be all over yard in no time. Marcus still doesn’t go to far in the yard because he doesn’t like the grass – so he usually stays in the driveway.

Marcus finally being mobile has introduced a new game between the twins. Chasing. They now chase each other around and cackle like little crazy people when they catch one another. I was laughing so hard the first time I saw them doing it I was almost in tears.

Today they were playing out on the deck getting some much needed fresh air & sunshine and they were having a wonderful time just taking the toys out of the pool and then putting them back in. Then Ellie thought it would be a good idea to throw the toys over the edge of the deck. So, somewhere in the bushes below the deck there is a little red ball… I’ll have to make Austin find that this week!

Anyhoo, we are still unpacking, rather, I am still unpacking. We got an air conditioner for upstairs which is working very nicely – definitely helping. I think if I could get just one day to focus on unpacking I could probably tackle everything but I can’t be in 2 places at once. So if anyone wants to volunteer to twin-sit so I can get stuff done I’d appreciate it!

So I have been getting my farm share every week and I have definitely not been keeping up with eating all the salad & veggies. So today I decided to try and make something with the stuff wilting in the fridge. This time in the season you sometimes get things that you may have never used or even heard of before. But… I decided after some thought and after searching for recipes online that I would just throw everything in the crock and make a veggie soup. I’ll have to post a follow-up about how it comes out… but it smelled yummy going into the pot.

Ingredients:

Baby beets (threw out the greens)

Kohlrabi

small red potatos

white onions

green onions (possibly leeks?)

carrots

couple pieces of broccoli & cauliflower from a veggie tray

fennel bulb (hung the greens up to dry)

chicken stock & water to cover

1# cooked ground turkey

garlic powder

red\black pepper

some other various sesonings

Soup should be on by 4 if you want a taste!!

We’ve officially been here a month and I made my 1st mortgage payment! I still don’t have everything unpacked & put away. It seems. at the moment, that I have some boxe that are just missing??? Still haven’t found my silverware – actually had to buy some to get by.

Summer is always hectic because of not having a real schedule for the kids. It was 90 here yesterday – yuck – thought I lived in Wisconsin not Florida! I still don’t feel like I’ve gotten into a pattern or settled in yet. Hopefully that will be better once everything is unpacked and school starts.

There’s still a ton of repairs to do and they aren’t really happening. I bought a ladder yesterday and some other stuff.

I’m taking Katey & Austin to see the Avatar (Last Airbender) movie this afternoon and then tomorrow is Mom’s birthday.

I have Monday off but it’s already shaping up to be a long day since I haveto drive Katey back to her Dad’s.

Anyhoo… that’s all folks!
